Over the past few months I have really struggled with inspiration and motivation to write on my blog. However, with 2019 only a few days away, I decided to write an article about what I want to achieve by the end of the coming year. I find it so difficult to set myself New Year goals as I always make them really unrealistic and I set myself too many that I just simply can’t keep up with. Therefore for 2019 I only have 4 main topics when it comes to the goals I want to achieve as I feel like these will be more obtainable. So below we will take a look into these New Year goals:
- Skating Improvements
- Increasing My Flexibility
- Schedule in More Date Nights
- Double My Savings
During 2018 I have been able to sign off the Bronze, Silver and Gold Skate UK Star courses which was an amazing feeling. However, my next course is the NISA levels which require you to complete field moves and elements in front of a judge. Currently my rink does run these exams up until level 3 I think, which is super handy as it doesn’t require me to travel too far to do it. And the fact that it is on a familiar rink is really beneficial and helps lift the stress. Therefore for 2019 I have set myself a goal of passing at least Level 1 NISA before the end of the year. This to me is highly achievable as I am already practising the moves and elements but they all need strengthening before I put myself out there.
Another skating related goal is that I want to be able to nail my scratch spin because I am struggling so much with it at the moment. I will pop a video here to show how my spins are at the moment but they need fine tuning so much! Mentally I know what I need to do which is to have a tighter edge and bring my leg around like a pendulum, but I just can’t seem to put it into reality. Therefore with help from my coach, by the end of 2019 I want to improve my confidence with my scratch spin enough to rotate quickly without travelling. And as I am so close atm I feel like I will be able to tick this off my list in no time!
Increasing My Flexibility
Going hand in hand with improving my skating, I really want to try Yoga stretches. By doing these regularly I hope to improve by balance and flexibility on the ice. This is also a great way to improve my fitness as working out at the gym and at home is not for me. At this time of year tons of people flock to the gym to only give up on their resolutions a few weeks later. Which is why I do not want to set myself that as a goal, I enjoy stretching and I have always been curious about trying Yoga moves. And by doing it at home I can schedule it into my routine before or after work and can go at my own pace.
To do this I will go onto YouTube and checkout routines which are best for improving your biellmann (scorpion) which is something I really want to be able to do. And I can also follow stretching routines on Pinterest such as this one I found earlier.
Schedule More Date Nights
I love spending quality time with my boo, whatever it is we choose to do. At the moment, we always seem to end up snuggling on the sofa watching a movie. However, I feel like we need to get out of the house together on the odd occasion. Therefore, during 2019 I want us to be able to set aside at least 1 evening a week, or fortnight to go out together. This could be for a meal, to go to the cinema, bowling, a walk etc. just to get us out of the house for a bit.
We will also find it super helpful that we both have Meerkat movies and meals. This means that the next goal will be more achievable as we can go out and enjoy ourselves using 2for1 vouchers.
Double My Savings
We are currently renting our house, however we would really like to purchase our own on day. Unfortunately, being able to save for a hefty deposit is proving to be difficult while renting. So as a goal I want to aim to double the balance in my savings. This is set to be achieved by the end of 2019 which can be manageable. Plus as I watch the savings grow, I will feel more motivated to save. Although, I don’t want to achieve this through limiting every last thing I do. As I still want us to enjoy ourselves by going to the cinema, and going out for meals. I would just need to watch what I spend my money on in the meantime.
